Dandy’s day's out as the official Folkestone Racecourse Mascot

Now a regular visitor to Folkestone Racecourse, Dandy makes every effort to look as cute as possible to help raise money for his equine friends

This is his story

I know I look like a Shaggy Shetland pony with a hairstyle that would compete with Tina Turner's, but underneath all this I KNOW I can be a super sleek race horse even if I am only 31 inches tall and at 14 years old, I am probably the oldest equine that’s not racing, so I will leave that to the experts - although if the truth be known, I would give them a run for their money!

You think those racehorses have it tough, they don't go through all the preparation that I do to visit Folkestone Racecourse! Looking good for my fans doesn't come easy!

My transformation starts with a good brush, or depending on how much fun I have had in the field, sometimes a bath is in order!  I am going to have a clip (short back and sides) as it's hot work persuading people to donate their money, I want to look as cool as possible, but they will have to catch me first !!!!

A Shetland has to look good when he is going out for the day so I will wearing my new rug - even the racehorses don't get one of these!!

You never know who you will bump into!

My special pen at Folkestone Racecourse!

 I've met clowns

And a strange looking dog whom I actually took a liking to. Sadly no one got a picture of her .... she was a BABE!!!

I am always dressed as smartly as any little race horse would be and then when the gates opened I meet the public, young and old alike.

People want to pat and touch me, it is a long day but well worth all the effort as everyone always has a good day out at the races.

I feel like a real Super Star on my days out

Look forward to meeting you when you visit Canterbury Horse Rescue, of course there are other horses and ponies there .... but I am the superstar!!!!!!  Remember that!!! Even if Basil tries to tell you different!!
